anything really... just nothing slow... smooth jazz sucks. but really anything else is good. preferably good drummers and stuff would be good.

Dj Shadows - Building Steam With A Grain...

Songs so good... uhm its a mixture or like freestyle, jazz instrumental, expiremental, with sort of a hip-hop beat. I like to call it trip-hop.

I guess you should start off with Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Thelonious Monk for a pretty beginner range of the many different genres of jazz. However, some people to check out in the future:

Hard Bop:
Cannonball Adderly
Nat Adderly
Clifford Brown
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers
Lee Morgan
Many organ trios (Dr. Lonnie Smith, Larry Young, Jimmy Smith, Jack Mcduff, etc.)
Dexter Gordon (bop too)

Bebop:
Charlie Parker
Dizzy Gillespie
Bud Powell
Max Roach
Coleman Hawkins
Howard McGee
Sonny Stitt
Fats Navarro
Dexter Gordon
Early Miles Davis

Cool Jazz:
Miles Davis (Birth of the Cool)
Gerry Mulligan
Stan Getz
Chet Baker
Modern Jazz Quartet (Milt Jackson)
Lenny Tristano
Gil Evans
Paul Brubeck
Paul Desmond

Avant Garde/Free Jazz
Ornette Coleman
Late John Coltrane
Eric Dolphy
Don Byron
Greg Osby
David Murray
Roswell Rudd
Chris Potter
Paul Bley
Charlie Haden
Peter Madsen
Mario Pavone
Tony Malaby
Albert Ayler
Anthony Braxton
Charles Mingus (with Dolphy)
Don Cherry
Dewey Redman
Derek Bailey
Dave Douglas
Lester Bowie

Modern Shit:
Joshua Redman
Pat Metheny
Bill Frisell
Joe Lovano
John Scofield
Robert Glasper
Jason Moran
Roy Hargrove
Brad Mehldau
Brian Blade
Matt Wilson
Jeff "Tain" Watts

I studied with a professor at Berklee for a little bit who played with Club D'elf a couple times. Kenwood Dennard. Chill guy. Brian Blade is so crazy. One of my favorite drummers for sure. I recently got into Joshua Redman too. That song "Jazz Crimes" is so great. He plays with Brian Blade in the Joshua Redman Elastic Band right?

Yeah, he plays with Brian Blade and Sam Yahel usually for the Elastic Band. Its some cool shit, haven't really listened to it in a while. Another cool thing thats kind of like Joshua Redman Elastic Band is Chris Potter Underground. Wayne Krantz plays with him, and its just unbelievable.
