View Full Version : Would you pay to get into your local skatepark?

The council in the town I live in has been thinking about making us pay to enter our skatepark so that it can be supervised. I think this would be a bad idea because the skatepark was put up for one main reason: to keep teenagers and skaters off the streets. This would make skaters stop entering the park and skate on the street again. I believe the idea of a donation box would help, because some people would put small donations, but at least they would be earning a small amount of money. But would you pay to get in your local skatepark?

In free skateparks, ramps get damaged, fights get started, and kids get mugged.

£3 for a safe skate would be ace in my opinion.

No, because my local park is one QP, one funbox and a rail. I just skated the streets and much prefer doing that now.

Yeah i would, if it was of a decent size and had a good layout then yeah. Your keeping a good cause going, support your local tbh. Your going to miss it on those rainy days when it isnt there.

i wouldnt pay to get into my local park. im lucky i guess that at our park very few fights break out, and the ramps dont really get damaged that much, so there would be no benefits to having to pay to get into my park. its a piece of crap anyway so no one would go to the park if we had to pay.

They were planning on making us pay for a months membership, so if it rains all month its a waste of money. The chances are it's going to be free now, patitions were everywhere, our school got 1100 people to sign one and theres 1200 people in the school!

In our skatepark there is very few fights and even if there is it is only because someone has fallen onto someone else, chavs don't cause much trouble (but I still hate them)

well i thibk its good and bad cos

Good points:
it stops people gettin beaton up
stops ramps gettin damaged
keeps kids off streets

bad points
not many peopl would go there
people would probably steal the mony
kids would go back out on streets

i thnk donation box (as u sed) would be better cos u could pay or u culdnt pay (duh lol)

What slapdown said. One time there was these loads of chavs movig the benches up the ramp so we couldn't skate and when they left, police came over and took our details because they thought it was us who moved it.
So paying is better, it would only be a couple of pounds.

I wouldn't pay to get in mine!

All it has is a mini quarterpipe, a bank ramp(far too steep!) a half pipe, a rail and this thing thats like a really tall box with another one on top so from the end it looks like this:

You could just start buying or getting wood and building your own stuff for the street.

I don't have a choice. Either use the incredibly crappy one near me. 1 rail on a funky hip, 3 jacked up quarter pipes, and a few half pipes and a pyramid. They can care less for skateboarding here. It gets up to 95 degrees outside. Normally, that ain't a problem... atleast til you fall on a piece of metal that's like 200+ degrees. The whole park is metal and outside. And pay nearly 5 freakin dollars.

It depends where the skatepark is though...

Like if its a good one where loads of skaters/bmxers come then you don't have to charge, if it's some shitty one where all these pikey's, chavs come to drink smoke and throw rocks at the ramps then yeah charge, so it would stop them from coming.
