are you sure RAM is your problem? alot of people have FAR too much RAM, i've got 1GB, which is more than enough even for me!
but yea, have a look at what make your mother board is, and go to their site and see what types of RAM it will support.

Most computers use 184 pin memory sticks. You can count if you want. ;)
We could help you farther if we knew:
- Processor speed
- Processor type (Intel, AMD)

and the motherboard!
RAM is all different, there are different types, and you need to make sure you get compatible stuff.

I would look on www.hp.com (http://www.hp.com) to see if they have a manual for the specific type of the computer. Also, Windows 98 has a tendency to be VERY unstable, especially when running memory or processor intensive applications, such as video editing software.
