A warped sense of ideals

By reptiskate52 at 2009-09-29 13:02

Before I begin to delve into my intended article, I'd like to get two things out of the way. First of all, admittedly, I've been abusing my content writer status. Or not abusing enough, as I haven't written an article in months. Secondly, this is not a skate related article, well, depending on your point of view. This article is to speak directly to the grand majority of this site. The teenagers, who to some extent, some more than others, feel... betrayed by the world. I'm sure a large majority of you aren't the most "popular" in your school, and many feel ostracized by the high school social hierarchy. And, from my years as a student, I've decided to try and give some insight on what the high school life is really about.

I'm no social butterfly. I have a deep amount of contempt for alot of people for no real reason. Outside my comfort zone of friends, I don't have any plans of meeting new people, at least inside the high school walls. The reason for this is not plain anxiety, I have no fear of talking to people. It's that, you know that kid who spends all of his time making new friends? Talking to every girl in the school, doing nothing but partying and slacking off and giving the teachers a smirk smile when they question him? That guy who everyone has decided is the end all be all of cool? Remember him. Remember him in two years, when graduations over and he's still hanging around the parties, no releases besides girls and booze in his life. That my friends, is the epitome of emptiness. We could go into the whole cliche of high school slackers doing nothing with their lives, but that's not what this article's about. Life isn't about success, it's about doing what makes you happy. It's about passion and love and hate and every emotion in between that makes us humans. So what's your passion? Skateboarding? Music? Art? Writing? Math? Dedicate yourself to that. Don't let anyone turn you down.

Fuck your friends if they don't approve
Fuck your teachers if they don't approve
Fuck your family if they don't approve
And most importantly, fuck the standards of other kids.

Know your passion, or find a passion, pour your heart into it, follow it as far as you're willing to go, and then one step further. Pour your heart into everything YOU see worthwhile, not what others tell you is worthwhile. And in the end, hell, I won't lie to you, you may be broke, you may not be a success and I can sure as hell tell you that you may fail. But that's not the meaning of life. And I am not claiming I know what the meaning of life is, but if I had to make an educated guess, it's having the ability to fall asleep at night knowing that you tried your best on what you viewed worthwhile and, whether you failed or not, while everyone else is sleeping off their nine to five, you can smile that contented smirk that worthless high school kids the world over smile everyday, but knowing you've earned every right to have that smile

A scatterbrained collection of words brought to you by Gino.

Live and love.

So true bro. Applies to me perfectly. I live that life 5 days a week for most of the year. It sucks but I know whats up. All I can do is do my shit and everything else will follow. Thats life.

Dude, that was BEAUTIFUL. That touched me so deeply(no homo) because i've gotten so much shit for who I am as a person and I'm not HATED in school, but i'm not popular. I don't get girls at the snap of my fingers, but the few things I put my heart into are things I LOVE. Thanks for this dude, this was a wake up call. :]

Haha, why thank you everyone.

Spot on, man. It's so saddening to see teenagers basing their decisions upon social solidarity that has no initial meaning in their lives. Finding somebody who thinks on their own is such a rare thing to find nowadays.

the death of skateboarding thing was kinda faux-introspective, but this is very well done. its also worth noting that at the end of the day, you ARE THE SUM OF YOUR EXPERIENCES. you are what you take from your past. thats always a good thing to keep in mind, day to day especially.

I'm going to be honest. That was pretty cheezy.

I agree with the message.

There really is nothing wrong with putting effort into making friends and being popular, though, and to allot of people it just comes natural.

I still think you're one of the cooler members.

no, theres nothing wrong with it, but his point is that if you arent that kind of person, regardless you are who you are, fuck the bullshit, basically.

cheesy is spelled with an 's'. alot is spelled with one 'l'. perhaps spend less time trying to be popular and more time learning to spell.
