360 Underflip
By badasskater at 2008-03-10 16:10

360 underflips are probably one of my favorite tricks and they are very stylish. I'm going to teach you how to do them.

Tricks you might want to learn before trying this trick:
Backside 360 pop shove it, Pop shove it underflips, Impossibles

What is a 360 underflip?
Well, a 360 underflip is a 360 backside pop shove it with a back foot flip. The flip is flipping the board from underneath, hence the name, underflip.

The Setup

^^ That is what I find worked for me the best. The setup is the most important part of the trick. Your front foot should be about in the middle of the board in about a 45 degree angle. Your back foot is essential. You want to hang your toe off the board alot. You should be able to feel the concave of the board with the balls of your feet. The back foot positioning enables you to get under the board and give it a good "under" flip.

The Flick
The flick of the 360 underflip is not that difficult. Pop, or scoop a backside 360 pop shove it. When the board just passes 180 degrees, start to underflip it with your back foot. Momentum will keep the board spinning for the full 360. You want to flick your foot as if you are pulling it up towards you, not actually flicking.

The Catch
This is a fairly hard part of the trick. As soon as you start to underflip the board, start to come down. I know your thinking, "Hey, won't I land to early?" The answer is no, the board spins surprisingly fast, and if you wait until it spins the 360 to catch it, the board will most likely do a double flip. It may take some troubleshooting to adjust to the speed of the flick. Everyones 360 underflip is different.

*** Troubleshooting ***

Question: Whenever I flick the underflip, I kick the board 5 feet out in front of me.
Answer: This is because you are not hanging your back foot off enough. Hanging the foot off allows you to get under the board and ensue a proper flick.

Question: I can't seem to stay over the board, I'm coming so close!
Answer: This is most likely happening because you are not pulling the board up towards you on the flip.

Question: I can't even get the rotation, I'm done with this trick.
Answer: Don't give up, this is a pretty advanced trick. Mess around with different foot positionings. Everyones is a little different.

Oh yeah, and one last thing, when you learn this trick, keep practicing it, because they are an easy trick to lose. I hope this tip helped some tech skater out there!

You should mention keeping your shoulders inline with the board-"squared" and jumping after the board as they affect the trick a lot.
Other than that its good.
